Week 50 - I finally did some real service, kinda...

SQUAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Soooo like the title says I did some frickin service, and I don't  have pictures to prove it, because I was too busy workin my tail off, I couldn't take pictures. Well we were helpin a member build his house, ya know, and I was filling a wheelbarrow full of dirt, and carrying to the house to fill in the floor, and then I got to make some cement, and stuff, it was chill.

Oh btw in 1 year from today I will no longer be a missionary.  Just so y’all know,  it breaks my heart, time is runnin out.

So last week was a struggle workwise ya know, and I was feelin a little down not gonna lie, but that´s alright now, because we had a great week this week.  We were able to find a great family of 5. We were able to set baptismal dates with them. It was the coolest thing, a few days earlier we talked to one of the sons who was probably around 16, and he said he couldn´t receive us that day, but he said the following Saturday, if we came by at 7, we could find the whole family.  We show up and we see him just flyin on his bike to get back to his house for us. That does not happen as often as we would like, that when someone says come back this day at this time, they are actually there waiting for us. It was great, we had a great lesson with them.

Oh another thing that went down, one of the members in our ward had a birthday ya know, so obviously he invited us, we ate A LOT of food, but the whole time he talked to us about Marvel comics and movies, about all the movies that are coming out, and all the movies that have already come out, that he has seen, and now I'm just dying to watch some movies, but it's whatever. Also this member won´t talk to me in Spanish, he only talks to me in English, I don't know why, but it´s funny. His name is Facundo.

Oh last P-Day it was the birthday of one of our Zone Leaders, so we got together and ate like men, and I will send a picture of the meal that we had, but it was swell.

Oh so Saturday the Bishop asked me to speak in Sacrament Meeting, so I prepared a talk with the little time I had, and it was a pretty good one if I do say so myself, and well, the first person to talk ended up reading an entire talk from General Conference, and testifying about every paragraph, and it lasted about 25 minutes, and by that time there wasn't time for me to talk, but it was about missionary work, and as I prepared this awesome talk the importance of sharing the gospel hit me like a train, not only because I´m a missionary, but because I should have shared a lot more before the mission.   D&C 88:77:

77 And I give unto you a commandment that you shall teach one another the doctrine of the kingdom.

To share the gospel is a commandment.  D&C 4:3

3 Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work;

With only the desire we have to serve God, we are already called to his work, which is to share the gospel.  D&C 24:12

12 And at all times, and in all places, he shall open his mouth and declare my gospel as with the voice of a trump, both day and night. And I will give unto him strength such as is not known among men.

Do it with valiance! With the voice of a trump. God will give you the strength to do so.

So my invitation to all who read this email is to share the gospel in every opportunity that you get.

That´s all I got for this week bye!

Week 49 - Well that's new . . .

SQUAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sooooooooooooo I'm about to tell yall about some cool stuff that happened this past week! Well not a whole lot happened, but a few things went down, so I´ll tell ya about it. Well first to explain the title of this email, yesterday we were knockin doors ya know, like missionaries do, and we get to this one house, and a little girl opens the door, probably was like 4 years old, and in probably the cutest and most innocent way I had ever seen, she rejected us like bad, she was all like" we don't want nothing!" and shut the door, but it was too cute to get mad about so ya.

I also went on exchanges ya know with my boy Elder Call, you will find his picture below, anyways it was raining hard, and it was cold, so we got dirty, like really dirty, there was mud in places where mud should not be. All the appointments had fallen until the very end of the night, when we went to teach a young couple, who needed to get married so they could be baptised,  and well they had had this same problem for months, and I happened to know about a scripture in the Bible that drops a bit of Cain. The scripture asked if you would rather get married or burn, so it was a little strong, but it got to them, and it seems like they are really working towards marriage now.

Oh the other day we were walking in the street right, and we saw a member so we started chatting with him, and it was about lunch time, and he asked us if we had lunch, and we did, then he was like do you guys want a little money to buy some more food, I don't have a lot but I got a little. It just frickin breaks my heart, that someone without a lot of money would offer that, just because we are missionaries. It makes me feel like maybe I was a little selfish before the mission, like I probably had to give, but didn´t give. It made me think of a bomb scripture in 1 Corinthians 13:13

13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of  these is charity.

You gotta have charity, it says that it's greater than faith and hope! So learn to give.

That´s all I got for this week I love you allllll!!!!!!!!!!!

Week 48 - Awkward...

SQUAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately not much happened this week, and for that I apologize. So this email might not be too lit, but I´m gonna try anyway. I´ll just start off explaining the title of this email. So I have shared a little about a back problem I have had, well I started physical therapy, and when I arrived I found out that the doctor was a woman. So that was weird, then when I started the session, she asked me to remove my shirt, more awkward, and after she finished this treatment thing, she started to massage my back. I wasn't a fan, it felt a little weird not gonna lie, but it's whatever. Turns out that I can´t finish the physical therapy, because the church has a rule that if it requires more than a certain number of sessions, I have to go home to do it, so I´ll just wait it out ya know?

Well this week we didn't get to teach a whole lot, but we were about to do a family home evening with one of the families in our ward. Well there were a few children present, and well it was rough, we tried to do a game to teach our lesson, and it turned into a brawl among the children, I´m not sure if they learned the lesson we were trying to teach, but it's whatever. The game was that each person had to ask if they could put something in a cup, and the only way you could put something in is if you said thanks when you received the cup from someone. We wanted to teach that many times we forget to give thanks for the things we receive, especially with Our Heavenly Father, who gives us everything, but I don't think that they received that message, but it's whatever. They also gave us some food ya know, because they always do, and well I happened to be fasting, so I got to suffer, and watch my comp, and everyone else eat some delightful snackage. So that was rough, but it was worth it, because the blessings that come from a sincere fast, are a lot better than any type of food.

So I don´t know if I already mentioned this, but we have a new mission president, Presidente Panzacchi, from Uruguay. We had a special little meeting the other day so we could meet him. He´s a chill guy. The only other thing that happened this week is that a frickin bird decided that my back was a great place to relieve himself. Yes that is what the picture below is showing.

Well I got nothing else so scripture time. Ether 12:12:

12 For if there be no faith among the children of men God can do no  miracle among them; wherefore, he showed not himself until after  their  faith.

If you want any type of help from God, don't even ask until you show your faith first. I liked this scripture so I shared it.

That´s all for today. Bye!!!!!!!

Week 47 --- Testimony

SQUAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Soooooooooooooooooooo another week down my friends, and stuff went down, so I'm gonna tell you about it, because if I don't my mom gets upset, and I don't want that. Sooo the first thing I wanna tell y'all about isn´t something that spiritual, but it was cool so I'm gonna tell y'all about it anyway. Soooo the other day, we were ending our day and we stopped by the chapel because we had to use the bathroom really bad, and there was a class going on with some of the members in our ward and right before we left one of the members told us to stay for a little, and she left, and a little bit later she came back, and for no reason bought us groceries. The members here freaking love the missionaries, like a lot!

Also we taught this lady the other day, she was with her friend who happened to be a member, so they let us in. Something happened during this lesson that was just sooooooo special, in the middle of the lesson she stopped us and asked me to share my testimony. She told me to explain how I came to know Jesus. So I testified to her how I obtained my testimony. After she told me that it was something really powerful, and we were able to set a baptismal date with her. I learned something very special in this moment, that even the most simple testimonies can have such a big impact on people. So never be embarrassed to testify. D&C 30:11

And your whole labor shall be in Zion, with all your soul, from henceforth; yea, you shall ever open your mouth in my cause, not fearing what man can do, for I am with you. Amen.

Don't doubt your abilities, don't fear that you can't do a lot, because God is always with you, and with Him you can do all things.

Also something funny happened in Sacrament Meeting yesterday. When the Bishop announced the person who was gonna say the closing prayer, that guy who was gonna say the prayer was in the back of the chapel and, pointed to the Bishop in a way that was like " I got you Bishop." It wasn't very reverent but it was kinda funny, and after the meeting that same guy likes to talk in English came up to me and said I´m the man because I'm American, and that all the Americans are the best. I felt a lot of pride for my country in this moment.

So I don´t know if I have already told you all but I´m a big fan of empanadas.  Well we’ve got a place kinda close to our pension that has empanadas, and I have bought a few, or maybe more than a few, because when we went in the other day, she asked me "lo mismo?" which means” the same?”  So I think I need to take a break from empanadas.

Well that´s all I got for today so CHAU!

Week 46 --- Frickin Victoria

Squad!!!!!!!!!!! Gonna start with a shout out to all the dads out there because yesterday was Father's day, shout out to my dad especially because he raised me into the man I am today. So I forgot to include the name of the Elder whose training I'm finishing, his name is Elder Gato, which means Elder cat, he´s from Peru. So my first week in my new area was different, there is a lot of walking to do. We  have 2 neighborhoods pretty darn close where we were, but then the next closest is a 30 minute walk, and we don't have any investigators that live close so we walked a lotttttttttt. Especially to this one lady´s house whose name is Victoria, now I'm gonna explain why I titled my email Frickin Victoria.  Well, we had an appointment with her my first day here, so we walked there it was like 35 minutes away, she said she couldn´t, but if we came by tomorrow, she would be available all day, so the next day we went again, again she was busy, so she said tomorrow again. So again the next day we walked all the way out there, and she wasn't there. So we spent a lot of time walking this week to the same person´s house. We never ended up teaching her, but it's whatever.

So the week started off pretty bad we hadn't taught anyone until saturday, it was neat, we were just rejected by someone, but before they closed the door on us, we just asked really quick who around here needs a little help, and she pointed across the street, and said they just lost their baby. So we went over there, and knocked on their door, at first they didn't want anything at all, but because I have a little experience losing someone that I love I was able to testify about the plan of salvation, and about how the only thing that helped me escape the pain I was experiencing was knowing about this plan that God has for us, and that she can see her baby again. They finally let us in, and we had a great lesson, and we were able to set baptismal dates with her and her husband. It was so powerful to see her realize that she can live with her daughter again. I absolutely love teaching people the plan of salvation; it is such a special experience.

Other thing that happened this week that wasn't quite as spiritually uplifting, we walked into this place to pay the energy bill for our pension right? and on the TV they were showing one of those live prank shows, when they do a prank and film  the people's reactions, but what was so bad about this one was that it was about Jesus Christ. It hurt me to see that, making jokes about the many miracles that he did for the people.

Also we had our last Zone Conference with President Goates, because we are getting a new mission president, and his last counsel for us had a lot to do with finding our eternal companions and stuff, he taught us how we need to date, he said that we need to set a curfew so we don't do bad things, so if any of you don't have a curfew, make one.

Well That´s all I got for this week, I love you all, and I will talk with you next week!

Week 45 --- Transfers . . .

SQUAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So last night we received transfer calls and......... I'm finally leaving San Juan, and I´m headed to Maipu, which is in Mendoza, and I´m gonna train! So that´s pretty cool I´m pretty excited not gonna lie, but some cool stuff happened during my last week in Rawson so you know what? I´m gonna tell ya about it. So first thing that happened is I went to the doctor, to check on my back, well apparently my spine is jacked up, and I need to go get an MRI, and then I´ll need to do physical therapy to get my back in shape, so that´s cool, we didn´t get to work at all that day, because we were in Centro all day doing that stuff.

Also I went on exchanges with my boy Elder Kitchen, and well the person that we were supposed to have lunch with had to cancel, so we went to buy some food, and we walked by like 4 places where we could have bought food, but we just kept walking and we walked into this little store, and so we got a few things, and I handed him some money and he said no it´s alright I´m a religious man too, so he paid for our food, I thought that was pretty cool.

Ohhhhh also the other day we were walking in the street right, and we saw this lady raking like a lot of leaves, sooo as representatives of Jesus Christ we offered to help, and for the first time in my mission she said yes. So for like half an hour we raked leaves and chatted with her, and we started to talk a little about what we do, then we started talking about her family, and she told us that her mother recently passed away, so we just testified of the plan of salvation, it was such a powerful experience, I could feel the spirit so strongly just testify of this to her.

Also because it was very likely that I was gonna leave Rawson, the Bishop wanted me to share my testimony in Sacrament Meeting and say bye, which is weird because the previous 2 or 3 missionaries hadn’t done that, but it was cool.

Now to share something, it´s actually a quote my former home teacher, Brad Farmer, gave to me before I left, but I just came across it again. It’s called “The Fellowship of the Unashamed.”

I am a part of the fellowship of the unashamed.
The die has been cast.  I have stepped over the line.

The decision has been made.  I AM A DISCIPLE OF JESUS CHRIST.
I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still.

My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure.

I’m finished and done with low living, small planning, smooth knees,
colorless dreams, tamed visions, worldly talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals.

I no longer need pre-eminence, positions, promotions, plaudits, or popularity.
I don't have to be right, first, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded.
I now live by Faith, lean on HIS presence, walk with patience.
I am uplifted by prayer, and labor with power.

My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven.
My road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my Guide is reliable.
My mission is clear.

I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, divided, or delayed.

I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy,
ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.

I won't give up, shut up, or let up until I have stayed up stored up, and paid up for the cause of Christ.

I must go til he comes, give til I drop, preach til all know, and work til he stops me.

And when He returns for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me.
My Banner will be clear.

I thought this was awesome, so I wanted to share it. Chau!

Week 44 --- Well that's unfortunate . . .

Squad... Soooo I made it another week, and I’m doing well, but something unfortunate happened, that´s why I titled this email "well that´s unfortunate" so yesterday on the way to church like 2 blocks from our pension, we happened to walk right by a murder scene... So that was a rough way to start off the Sabbath day. Good thing I got to take the sacrament yesterday. Now it’s all chill.

Not much else happened this week, we are losing all our investigators, not like dropping them, but literally losing them, we can’t find them even all the GOATs. They kinda just disappeared. So that has been a little frustrating, but things happen, I’m just gonna keep on working. I wanna tell you about my pal Hermano Castro, he is the best, he calls us his niƱitos (little kids) he does a lot for us. So the other day his wife got really sick, and his son wasn’t able to be home to help him give her a blessing of salud, so he calls us up, cuz we tight ya know, anyways we went there, we went in, and it´s a little cold now, so he offered to make us a hot drink right? So he made us some sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet hot chocolate it was tasty. He had a kid serve a mission, so he knows what it’s like to have a kid in the mish, so he always tells us that his goal is to make us feel at home as much as possible.  He´s a nice man.

Like I said it has been a pretty uneventful week, but tomorrow I have to go to the doctor to get my back checked out, and next week is transfers again, so next week I´ll have some stuff to write about. I´m sorry for not having much this week but it happens, but I’m gonna share a scripture now, because scriptures are nice. 1 Nephi 21:14-16

14 But, behold, Zion hath said: The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me—but he will show that he hath not.

15 For can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee, O house of Israel.
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.
We have trials, and a lot of times we blame God, saying oh he doesn’t love me, or he forgot about me, but as you can see, we are the ones who forget, when things are going good for us, do you think that sometimes we forget to show gratitude to the person who gives us everything, I think so. He will never forget about us, he loves us, we are his everything, and he should be our everything.

That´s all I got so I´ll talk to you next week!!!!!!!!

Week 43 --- Wow . . .

Squad!!!!!!!!!  I´m so delighted to be able to write all you wonderful people this fine Monday morning. Things happened this week, not a whole lot, but a few things that I would like to share with you, if that´s alright. Sadly we didn't find many new investigators, but we found an old one that we hadn´t seen in 6 weeks. So we didn´t plan on going there, just one day we ended up passing by his house, so we were like maybe he is home, so we clapped, and he came out, and was like come in. So we had left him a Book of Mormon, and we asked have you been able to read it, and he said yes, he read to Alma! So we then asked how do you feel about the book, he told us that he knew it was true. What a blessing, we couldn´t meet with him for 6 weeks, and we pass by and he had been reading the whole time. We had been praying about him the whole time. Boy am I glad that God hears and answers our prayers.

Another thing that happened, we went to teach this lady Gabriela right? Well she doesn´t believe very much in men leading a church, she believes in God, and in Jesus Christ, but not in prophets. So I had a video of the Restoration, ya know about Joseph Smith, she was so touched she made her kids leave so she wouldn´t be bothered, and then when the video finished all she said was "wow" that´s why I titled this email wow, and I wanted to share this story because the story of the restoration is something powerful, if you haven´t seen it, you should do it. There is also a movie, Joseph Smith the Prophet of the Restoration. You should all see it if you haven´t, if you don´t have a testimony, you will get one, if you already have one, it will be strengthened.

That´s all I got for this week love you all byeeeeeeeeee!

Week 42 --- Transfers . . .

Squad. We received our transfer call last night and ... I´m staying in Rawson with Elder Burnett.  I have been in San Juan for a really long time, but I´m happy to be here. We’re about to put in the work.
So I think I might just tell yall about the week I had. Not gonna lie not much happened, but I´m gonna write some stuff so you have something to read. Actually we had a powerful experience with an inactive member this week, so I´m gonna share that. So this week we went to lunch at a member’s house, and she had to leave so she left us with her 18-year-old son that had just moved back in with her. So we asked him why he doesn´t go to church, he told us that he doesn´t really have a reason, just felt a little too pressured to serve a mission, but anyways he told us a story about the time he spent living with his dad. One day he was just chillin in the streets walking home, and he saw some missionaries, and he felt like he should follow them, so he did, and in the process he came across a girl hidden in a vacant building and she was about to commit suicide, so he called the missionaries over, and all he did was take a Book of Mormon from them, and testify that it is a powerful book that will change her life, and she took it, and she ended up being baptized and is preparing to leave for a mission.

I wanted to share that story because, when I heard it, two things popped in my mind, the power of the Book of Mormon, and the importance of following the promptings of the Spirit. We always learn that the Book of Mormon is the key to our religion, and that is so true, but it also will give us comfort and strength when we need it. It brings me back to Mosiah 24:14. God really does visit us in our afflictions, he does help us, and the Book of Mormon is a great way to receive this help. Also, always always always follow the promptings of the Spirit, if he never turned down that street, he wouldn´t have found this girl who needed help. If you think the Spirit is telling you to do something do it, if it´s something good why hesitate, 9 times out of 10 I promise it is the Spirit.

Moroni 7:13
13 But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.

Anyways that´s all I got for this week, I don´t even have pictures, sorry. bye!
